Mr. Hazlett became President of the American Academy of Adoption Attorneys on May 1, 2000. Previously he served as President-Elect, 1999-2000, and Vice-President of the organization from 1998-1999. He represented the Academy at the 2002 Adoption Symposium for Permanency for Children in Washington, DC. Annually he represents the Academy at the annual meeting of the Association of Administrators of the Interstate Compact on the Placement of Children. He was the academy liaison to Adoptive Families of America of Minneapolis, MN. Mr. Hazlett has served on the Board of Trustees since 1997. He has served as Chair for the Internet Committee and the Ethics Committee. He also regularly contributes articles for the Newsletter, presents seminars at the Annual Conferences, and serves on the Interstate Compact for the Placement of Children Committee. Mr. Hazlett only accepts adoption cases in his practice in Topeka, Kansas. He received his undergraduate degree in 1965 and his law degree from the University of Kansas in 1967. He served as Senior Judge, Shawnee County Magistrate Court from 1973-1977. He attended the National Judicial College in Reno, Nevada in 1973 and was one of eight judges in the country selected for a special faculty-training program at the Judicial College in 1974. Allan lectures to numerous adoptive parents' organizations and groups concerning adoption. He has been a seminar presenter for several organizations on Independent Adoptions and has consulted in various other states concerning adoptions. He was a technical advisor to the Guiding Light CBS television program regarding the adoption sequences and a consultant to CNBC's Steals and Deals and Inside Edition with respect to proposed segments on adoption fraud. He has published adoption related articles in the Topeka Woman magazine.
